Hyde Park will allow the sale of weak beer. Hey, it's a start. As Tom Barberi used to say, the legalization of adulthood in Utah is a glacial process.

This was a feature article in today's Times, so a lot of people around the world got a glimpse of the weirdness that is Utah. I'll drink to that!

+100 to Mr. Randall. He may still be a Mormon, but 'free agency' is a term hardly heard anymore in Utah.

But Ms. Reck needs to quit sounding so bitchy and get off her LDS high-horse. “I thought I was moving into this wonderful L.D.S. community where everyone would stand up and speak. I’ve been a little disillusioned.” Give me a fucking break.

I can only imagine what some of the opposers would think if they knew this: http://puremormonism.blogspot.com/2009/06/too-bad-i-dont-like-beer.html

What an idiot she is. Utah is part of the United States, where there is no official state religion. I'm sick of church members thinking they have the right to impose their beliefs on everybody else through public policy.

"Public health concerns"? Because we all know that, if you allow beer sales, the town will be full of drunkards within a year.

Don't people who drink small amounts of alcohol have better heart health than those who never drink? That's a health issue.

Fucking Utard mormons.

Why don't Mormons advocate for the banning of high fat junk foods?

Hilarious! This convenience store will only sell 3.2% beer anyway, which is damn near impossible to get drunk from.

Q. How is 3.2% beer like having sex in a canoe?

A. They are both f****** near water.

Nice. What could be worse than drinking Coors Light that will never get you drunk?

Learning secret handshakes for 2 hours that will not get you into Heaven?

Or was that a rhetorical question?

The Utah "3.2%" is really the same as the 4.1 percent that the rest of the country drinks when it drinks a lite beer. Regular beer being about 5%.

Why is this even a city council issue? Doesn't the state set alcohol laws?

Technically yes, but there are some things the city can decide.
Kind of like how you couldn't buy beer on Sunday in Orem and Provo for years. There was a store on the edge of Springville that used to make a killing in alcohol sales because of it.

oz: apparently, Utah laws have / had a 'local option' clause for counties and/or cities. I think one state (KY?) is still liquor-free, ha ha.

Is Hyde Park close to I-15?

O/T .. . it's sorta nice to hear that Maverick stations are still around!
