So mormons believe that persistently entering church property and asking to see President Monson is stalking?

On the other hand mormons persistently entering private property and love bombing or asking to see someone specific do not regard themselves as stalkers. Hmmm... sounds like a case of "Don't do as we do, we stalk the prey, you just pay, pray, obey, keep on paying and do as we say."

Mormons might start to understand if they were arrested a few times for the same behavior of this poor guy.

His behavior proves he's mentally ill? When Mormons act this way, they might be proving they're also delusional.

Monson wouldn't know Jesus Christ if he tripped over him. That we do know.

More and more it seems like these are the type of people that mormonism attracts.

This comment to a comment at the bottom had me rolling.

"
"Hmmmm. The church holds Joseph Smith in extremely high regard and they claim he received guidance outside normal channels. We should keep our eyes on Brother Staples. Maybe he knows something."

Wrong. The Church does NOT believe that Joseph Smith received guidance outside of normal channels. A true prophet receive revelation directly from God, which is what happened with Joseph Smith. This man isn't claiming to be a prophet, he's claiming to be Jesus Christ himself. Big difference.

Sadly my Protestant church had to take out a protection order against a mentally ill person who had been attending regularly. The individual was violent with a pastor and started making threats of physical violence. We all hope the individual gets the help they need, but violent threats are not ok. Not exact the same story as the OP, but there are valid reasons churches can get protection orders.

Wouldn't a "true" prophet of God have simply invited the man in and healed his illness using his magical priesthood powers? Or, if he was possessed, just cast those pesky demons into some nearby swine? (I'm sure Mr. Packer would have sufficed)

Seems like he missed his opportunity.

That's what stuck out to me! Like hey Mr. Monson! What kind of a prophet are you? They talk about all his greatness and power but he can't protect himself from one slightly mentally ill, over-zealous Mormon?

I feel sorry for this man.

The COB absolutely had the right to trespass the man from their premises--I have no problem with that. And if he continually returned to the premises, his arrest was proper. I have no problem with that either.

What I have the biggest problem with is TSCC's statement that they are concerned because this man is receiving revelation outside of normal channels. That by itself doesn't make him dangerous. Believing he needs to speak to the prophet doesn't make him dangerous. The mentally ill are not always dangerous. I'm surprised TSCC would give so many statements that show them in an uncompassionate light. Aren't most of the stories about Joseph Smith (the ones the sheep hear in church anyway) about how he stopped to help some individual member? And what about Monson's widow stories? I'm not saying that this man should have been escorted right to Monson, but if TSCC is as compassionate towards their members as they claim, I would have liked to see them get this man some help, or a referral to some help. But I realize that this is a business, not a church, and that would never happen.

Since this is an old article, published July 26 2011, I wonder whatever happened him?

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/52577468-78/staples-church-building-monson.html.csp

These are always problem situations, with lots ambiguity. In Massachusetts, "Stalking" is a more serious charge, involving "repeated contact" involving at least one threat. "Trespassing" would have been the more appropriate charge, I believe, based upon the few facts we have. The responding officers should have considered EMTs to come for an on-site "psych eval." Perhaps they did, and he was able to answer questions adequately to establish that he was not an apparent threat to himself or others.

But who really knows?

The article points out that he was extremely cogent, articulate, and apparently knew just what he was doing and the legal implications. He reminds me of Brian David Mitchell, Elizabeth Smart's kidnapper. Very shrewd, smart, articulate, and dangerously competent--but combining the most extreme elements of a dangerous belief system in an especially perverse way.

I've lived in a lot of different wards. I would say the majority of them have at least one person that's a bit off.

One guy used to stalk a few of the married women. He was about 400 lbs, wore overalls, and a dirty Tshirt. I don't think he showered very often. He would write threatening letters to the husbands, and stalk their young kids. He was scary. Several people had restraining orders out on him.`The church ex'd him which only made the situation worse. I moved, so don't know how the story ends.

I thought Mormon Leaders had the Power Of The Priesthood? The great Melchizadech Priesthood restored on the earth and operating the ONLY one and TRUE church amongst the cesspit of Satans churches?

Why not invite the man in and do something Holy, give him a blessing, rather than behave like you have no Power, No Priesthood, No nothing.

What kind of Prophet has no faith whatsoever in his Priesthood Power and Office that he says has been called of God.

I'm sure it would have made a good conference talk, instead they have to make things up.

who is guilty of trespassing, or harassment, or stalking (or some combination thereof), just think of the problems, agendae, politics, and complications in assessing the situation where a cop had to use his firearm?

Does this mean you have to be mentally ill to want to talk to Monson?

The man in question (or someone doing a very good impersonation of him) is active on numerous LDS-related groups on Facebook. He's a complete attention w***e.
