So I seem to have developed a sleeve allergy. Low cut tops and mini-skirts have taken over the closet. Sometimes I think, oh I should cover up for a visit to the TBM in-laws, but I can't find anything "modest" that I can stand to wear in Phoenix heat, so--oh well. The best part of Phoenix summers is the people watching. I love all the tattoos and piercings and wild, bare outfits. When I was TBM, I would alternate tent dresses. I would see a 300 pound plus women in spandex camo shorts and I would be jealous. Now there's someone who puts on exactly what they want and screw anyone who thinks they shouldn't.

My MIL decided to give me a back handed shaming. She was talking about women who don't "cover up their extra weight." How, "these days" heavy women and pregnant women wear tight shirts or let it all hang out and it would looks so much better if they would cover up. I have to confess that in my past I might have tut tutted right along with her. Instead I said I love to people watch and the wilder the outfits and hair, the better. I love to see people's tattoos and piercings. She changed the subject.

I think a lot of it is sour grapes. The poor woman spends 6 months of every year sweltering in garments, oversized short sleeved shirts and capris pants.

A gift of ex-Mormonism...viva la skin!

I agree, life is short, let your freak flag fly. Having said that, I am pretty conservative looking :(

I hate feeling constricted by clothing and I'm a sweaty sort of person, so I wear as few clothes as possible in the spring through late fall. This even extends to my shoes- I can't stand to wear closed shoes. Luckily I live in NW NM and it's sandal weather (IMNSHO) until the week before Thanksgiving. :)

People should wear whatever they feel comfortable in casual situations. If you don't like the way it looks on someone, then don't look!

Ironically, I now have to wear capris on a regular basis because the desert makes my eczema flair up. But it's still comfortable, and that's what matters, right?

Oddly enough, some of my teen memories of highest sexual excitement are of the YW in the ward wearing full-length, "pioneer" type dresses...made of material sheer enough that whenever they were backlit by the sun, you could see *everything* through them. It was the "modestly" dressed teenage girls that provided me my first looks at actual female anatomy, not the immoral gentiles all around me. :)

I was just lamenting to dh yesterday that jean season is right around the corner. I LOVE wearing shorts. This is my first summer not wearing those awful garmmies, and capris to cover them up. It's been great to wear shorts and a tank top on a hot day.

My local school district (outside the Morridor) voted this last week to prohibit girls from wearing yoga pants. Their reason was because the boys were so distracted by girls in yoga pants that they couldn't learn. From what I know about teenage boys (I grew up with brothers...so I know far more than I ever wanted to!) teenage boys are going to be distracted by girls NO MATTER WHAT THEY ARE WEARING!

I hate the "rape culture" mentality where people assume that it is the victim's fault that the offender did what he did. TSCC is great at promoting rape culture. I went through YW in the late 90s/early 2000s and probably 6 times a year we had a lesson specifically on modesty and how it was our fault if we weren't dressed modest and something bad happened. Not only that, but it was our fault if the boys around us had impure thoughts (heaven forbid those impure thoughts lead to masturbation and those boys aren't worthy to serve a mission!)

I live in a small town, and to get to the bank or post office, I have to walk by several bars. I get cat-called just as much if I'm wearing shorts and a tank top or jeans and a hoodie. I figure its not my problem how the bar patrons choose to behave. I'm going to continue to wear what is comfortable, and I am going to continue walking around my town. And if any of them tries anything physical, they'll find themselves with a face full of pepper spray =)

Ugh i was reading this article the other night about a lady who found herself in a situation where a guy was following her, and she was close to her apartment building, so she got out of her car and made a dash for it. the guy chased her, she pepper sprayed him, and she kept running, looked behind her, and he was still chasing her!!! she was lucky the building was unlocked, ran to her apartment, pulled out her handgun, aimed it between his eyes, he just about ran into it, and thats what finally stopped the fucker. apparently he backpeddaled pretty damn quick.
my confidence in pepper spray is a little shattered O_o
and my TBM dad "doesnt get" why I'm getting a concealed carry permit as soon as I can. apparently theyre only for "extreme people". ...?
sorry for the tangent, just thought the pepper spray story should be heard!

If he was on PCP or another hard drug, it's likely the pepper spray wouldn't even faze him. That is terrifying and glad your friend was able to protect herself. What happened to the attacker?

Yes, but what was she WEARING??? So kidding. So awful. I think I'd stay in my car and drive to the police department.

I'm the same way as from about May to October, I pretty much live in tank tops and shorts. The only way I'll wear a dress these days is if it's a sun dress or sleeveless. Otherwise, when I dress up, I prefer slacks. Another thing I did is that to celebrate both my divorce becoming final and my resignation was to get my ears pierced a second time.
