Sexual Allegations against Joseph Smith

Former CES teacher Grant Palmer has written a new paper detailing all the known cases in which the prophet Joseph Smith was accused of some sexual misconduct with women. He also discusses the beginnings of polygamy in the Nauvoo era. http://mormonthink.com/grant6.htm

Prior to 1827, there are no specific instances of Smith being accused of making unwelcome sexual advances to females. In his official history, he did report that during his youth:
"I was left to all kinds of temptations, and mingling with all kinds of society, I frequently fell into many foolish errors and displayed the weakness of youth and the corruption of human nature, which I am sorry to say led me into divers temptations, to the gratification of many appetites offensive in the sight of God.[7]"
Could the "gratification of many appetites" refer to sexual encounters with women? Smith's statement may be referring to the many camp-meetings he attended-"as often as occasion would permit" (JS-History, 1:8).


I don't think so, I think what he was referring to was sex with farm animals, which was almost as common then as porn is today.

He was a liar, adulterer, etc. and there are also allegations that he had certain people killed. It almost appears that he was trying hard to break every one of the ten commandments!

I read this material years ago and it was the main thing that caused my break with the church.
