Why is everything you do in mormon life considered a sacred duty?

Going to church - sacred duty.
Reading the scriptures - sacred duty.
Paying tithing - sacred duty.
Getting an education - sacred duty.
Getting married - sacred duty.
Having kids - sacred duty.
Spending time with your family - sacred duty.

I don't know about you, but one of the most effective ways you can make me not like doing something is by telling me I have to do it. Kind of like when you were in school and got reading assignments. "To Kill a Mocking Bird" is a great book, but I hated reading it because I HAD to read it when the teacher said so according to the schedule the teacher laid out.

It's no wonder mormons have such a hard time enjoying life. Even brushing your teeth in the morning can be considered a sacred duty.

Oh thanks, now you've got that stupid song stuck in my head... "I love to see the temple, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I'll prepare myself while I am young, this is my sacred duty."

Yup, they need to brainwash those kids with the "sacred duty" thing so that when they don't feel the holy spirit when they go there, they will know it's because there is something wrong with them, not the sacred house-o-gawd.
