Maybe a stupid question, but

What exactly is a Second Anointing? I never heard of them until coming to this site.

Ask "anointed one" on this site. He's had his and then left TSCC. And there are lots of links but I don't have them handy. I'm sure you'll get a lot of hits from those that do.

Many Mormon/BYU-"scholars" have written about it over the years.
Bruce R. McConkie and a few other high-profile Mormon authors and authorities have written about it over the years.

There was a pretty good history of it published in Dialogue, Spring 1983, see here for the article

It actually has been going on for a long time and its meaning has evolved over the years.
