Happy Valley is an inaccurate nickname for Utah County because most of the so-called 'happy' is so faked/forced. It needs a new nickname.

How about:
Prozac Valley
Stepford County
Morgbot Metro

I call orem "the pit of despair".

I call Provo, "The Pit of Despair" in my head, but never out loud. It's gratifying to know that someone else feels the same way, NewPerspective. To me, Orem and Provo are the same. I had to live there 4 years, at BYU. I wasn't as happy there, as I was in other places, but thought it was my own fault.

I like "Happy Valley" though, because of its irony, the phony ring to it, plus it is the perfect name for a mental institution.

I've also always liked the irony ring that HAPPY VALLEY calls out because:

The people cannot wait to share the reason for their so called 'ecstasy', not caring to know if you are actually interested in listening because you consider yourself to be happy 'enuf', thank you very much. They pounce right into their spiel and the memorized words come gushing out. You don't even feel like the words were meant special for you, but instead, are for every Tom, Dick, or Mary.

But I do also like one of the new name suggestions........

This Land that Time Forgot is reflected in their garmies choice, the bathing suits that must cover as much of the body as possible for someone to still be able to swim and not drown (I counted one biki at a certain water park in the area), triple, not double tops, so the ladies can be modest. their grammar and choice of words and phrases they speak, and especially how the topic of conversation, you can count on it, is about Church, Church and more Church.

I do feel when I am this area of Utah that I have stumbled into a strange weird land, kind of like, Alice found in her Wonderland, as I posted on another site.

Maybe that is a new possibility for a nickname:

WONDERLAND.......as it certainly leaves you wondering.
