I don't know what is worse. The whole idiocy of the temple ceremonies, or how somberly serious all the TBMs took the secret handshakes.

I remember the stern look on the faces of the temple workers. This was clearly very serious work to them. Also the members talking about how wonderful the temple was, and the knowing nods with the serious faces of experienced TBMs as they silently agreed. Then you go, and its a bunch of adults in really crappy dress up clothes, using secret handshakes like they are in the He-Man Woman Hater's Club from "The Little Rascals" and talking about health in their belly buttons and other nonsense, never once stopping to think if any of it even made any kind of sense.

It's amazing how seriously people can be manipulated into thinking the most ridiculous things. I've seen people believe the craziest stuff without any reason to even believe it (even things not related to religion)
