Because God told them to be.

I wonder if gay men are more attracted to "Spiritual" men?

I never was. Bring on the bad boy, bad boys, what you gonna do?

http://www.nairaland.com/853788/natural-man-spiritual-man-carnal
"in brief we may say that the spiritual man is someone who a Spirit-led man."

And to differentiate.

"what is the Natural Man?

But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (1 Cor 2:14 NKJV)"

A "natural man" is an enemy to God.

And in direct opposite to a spiritual man you have a "carnal man."

"The word ‘carnal’ means – ‘fleshly.’ When applied to a Christian, it means someone, who although they are born-again, they are still allowing their flesh to control much of the way they live and think."

A "carnal man" is in enmity to being a "Spirit-led man."

When I found out about how Joseph Smith and Brigham Young were I thought they were super scary too. I think many "spiritual" people have God-shaking ground to stand upon and being led by something which no one can prove exists seems like a bad idea.

At least with Plato/Socrates, their metaphysics were in the realm of ideas. Not that these can't be just as shaky but I would like to think they are less variable.

When the spirit of God on a man is burning he probably looks hot to some women and barking mad to people like myself.

LDS church, where rigid conformity and early exclusive relationships are the rule and a "nice guy" brand of masculinity is promoted by the most influential members of the community, there aren't enough "bad boys" to go around.

I think its the mormon version of gold digging. They want a supper "spiritual" man so he can provide all the luxuries and blessings that the spirit has to offer.....the big payoff being eternal life in the CK, which they can't get on their own.

Add to that the mormon teaching that marrying a spiritual giant and valiant church member is more important than actual love.

"Spiritual" might mean "not scary".

When I was only in my twenties, and hanging out with male co-workers, the subject of dating and how awful it was came up. I said something along the lines that it can be scary. The men talked about the fear of being turned down for a date. I was talking about how scary it is to get into a car with a stranger who can beat the crap out of you.

So true. My eldest is going on her first date tomorrow. The kid is a church kid she has known a long time and he is twice her size.

Men tend to forget about the size thing since they are always focusing on the size of other appendages and not their whole body...(joke)

They probably think a "spiritual man" is a "safe" man, hence some women will select that type of man. As a man, I would not be interested in a "religious" woman, though one who had an open mind on "spiritual things" would be appealing. I know the OP was speaking of being spiritual as it relates to Mormonism.

I wasn't attracted to "spiritual" men. "Bad boyz" appealed to me. I married a man who thought he was a "spiritual" man, (because that's what I was supposed to do). Thankfully he was a "bad boy" at heart and I got who I really wanted!!

I was always too sexy to be Mormon, anyway!

I'm a natural man, and glad of it. I don't walk by faith because indeed, I do think faith is foolishness. That doesn't rule out being patient and kind, which I try to be. As Robert G. Ingersoll said, I think we're here to be happy and make others so.

So called "spiritual" men always seemed asexual to me. Not ever attracted to them.

I thought it was because all of the tbm women secretly wanted to be the wife of a GA or gasp, the prophet, when they were older, prestige and all. The spiritual man now might be a GA!

I generally don't go for men :) But I do find that the people I fall hardest for are the ones who are genuinely sweet and caring, who you can't possibly be mean to. People who inspire me to be a better person. Women who associate kindness etc. with religion are likely to say they want someone "spiritual" when what they really want is someone nice.

On the other hand, there are also the type of women who always go for the trophy alpha males. Men with more Mormon power, who put on a good show of being spiritual, have higher social status and will appeal to this kind of girl. "Spiritual" is a bit of an ambiguous blanket term, so women with completely different tastes can still manage to describe what they're looking for somehow as "spiritual" men.

You are so right in my opinion. There is the check list women of whom I think many have "believes in God" is on that list. All other things seem to related to that one even if he is a total emotionally abusive misogynist.

It must be a Mormon thing. It was never important to me. I like intelligence, responsibility, and a sense of humor.
