http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865608081/Gay-Christian-and--celibate-The-changing-face-of-the-homosexuality-debate.html?pg=all

First off, this doesn't constitute a "changing face of homosexuality". A lot of gays choosing to marry might, but a few people making crazy choices doesn't.

Celibacy is a valid lifestyle choice, but ONLY IF YOU CHOOSE IT. Having someone else demand you remain celibate for life is abuse. It goes against human nature.

Some of the comments say that priests and nuns are celibate, so why can't gays be? They ignore that priests and nuns CHOSE their lifestyle. They also ignore that in some cases, celibacy has NOT worked out well. (Consider the huge Catholic abuse scandals.)

Others say that those who don't marry are expected to be celibate. They ignore that they have/had the HOPE of one day marrying. They weren't required as a young adult/teenager to give up hope of ever having a fulfilling lifetime relationship.

Others say that some people are incapable of marriage. That's true, but doesn't apply to gays, who are indeed capable.

Oh, and there's also the comment comparing it to an addiction. Asshat.

They also list TSCC as a "major religious traditions". HA!

I'm sick of straight, married people, who say they find much fulfillment in their relationships, telling others that they can't have the same.

The arrogance of these people astounds me.

One awesome comment: "The central question is not whether a few can 'convert'; the question is why should they have to even consider it."

Child abuse is not the result of celibacy. It's the result of a situation where predators place themselves in positions of power to gain access to potential victims.

With the scale of the abuse, there are going to be many factors. I think celibacy is one of them, pedophilia, and others.

Well, they're dead wrong.

To say that celibacy causes child abuse is to excuse the behavior of predators who are lying to people & tricking them.

*Language*

The end of the article sums up the mess nicely:

“The job of the adjective is to change the noun,” said Butterfield, who will speak at the Southern Baptist convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission’s fall conference on sexuality. “Our sexuality exists on a continuum, but our Christianity does not.”

True. The bigotry that is espoused by many christian churches, especially the Mormon church, does not change. It is solid. They will cling to it to the end and they will go down with the ship in their self righteousness. These "Christians" may throw an extra adjective in here and there for appearance purposes, may give lip service to the idea of love, but the pressure for gay people to not be who they are, not love who they love, and not be happy and fulfilled, remains unwaveringly the same.

They cannot even say the words, use the correct terminology. Cowards. They don't even have the courage to openly and honestly look at all the gay people who are loving, accomplished, balanced and happy. They don't have the guts to consider for a second that religion has it wrong. Bigoted cowards. Fuck you and your SSA diagnosis. Fuck you and your adjectives.

and the only reason anyone is "struggling" with being gay is because religious bigots insist you feel bad about yourself, not because there is anything inherently wrong with being gay.

As Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian says, she has furniture older than the Mormon church

Most of the people insisting on celibacy for gays are themselves married (or have been married, or who hope to marry.) They insist on a lifestyle for gays that they would never consider leading themselves.

I if someone has a plan for Gay Men, and that plan includes not fucking,

then they are fucking morons,

and should go fuck themselves,

because anyone that stupid is surely a lousy fuck.

Amen

Noting grates on my nerves more than when straight people point to the few gay christians who choose celibacy and say "Why can't you do it then?"

As if we are all the fucking same person with the same life?

From now on I am going to respond by pointing at the MANY straight people who have no problem with gays and say back "Why can't you do it then?"

...or ask them why they didn't choose to go through life single and celibate, since it's apparently such an easy, desirable lifestyle.

They'll just respond with some tripe about how we all have our own "trials" to face.

And their trials would be what? Smug arrogance combined with ignorance? Now that is a trial, for everyone around them.

This is worth repeating and thinking about:

The people who ask you to remain celibate for the rest of your life are never celibate themselves!

First of all, the Catholic Church has proven how unhealthy permanent celibacy is.

Second, why should gays be the only one branded as eunuchs? Even those who never marry are still given the hope that they may one day find their mate. The LDS Church cruelly tells gays that their love lives are over from age 12 unless they somehow convert to straight, which has been proven to be impossible.

Catholics respect celibacy, while Mormons do not. A celibate priest is revered by Catholics while a celibate Mormon guy is pitied his entire lonely life.

I swear the Deseret news has more talk of gay sex than a gay porno.
