In the late 70's early 80's the leaders of TSCC received a revelation from their god that gays could be cured by having wires attached to their balls and receiving electrical shock therapy. From what I heard (this was happening in Tempe, Arizona) the local bishops would send their gay boys to an office in Tempe where electrical wires were attached to their balls. The people running this secret place would show the boys porno pictures of males and females having sex. Then they would be shown porno pictures of two men engaging in sex. If the boys got sexually excited watching men having sex the workers would shock them in their balls. If the boys got excited watching males and females having sex there would be no shocking pain. This was supposed to turn the gay men straight.

My questions - did TSCC buy the porn or did they make it themselves?

Did TSCC show the porn to gay children? Males under 21.

Which GA received this revelation?

Why did it not work since it was revelation from the Mormon god?

Did Lesbians also get the shock treatment?

Does anyone know the name(s) of the porno movies TSCC used for their failed revelation?

Was this revelation in their secret sealed records buried in a hill.

Are they sick? The ones running the "study" are! At least they didn't cut them off. May have well have. Sounds like an extension of a temple ceremony.

Monson was the head of the Values Institute that oversaw it all.

Source please. I find it hard to believe tscc would do this. No way.

Clever idea though. Perhaps somewhere people are trying this. Who would subject themselves to this is either really determined to "straighten" up, or into bdsm, or both.

Let gays be gay. This post is disturbing.

News to me. Well how can tscc preach NO PORN then do this? Still hard for me to accept this even though I no longer affiliate with tscc.

In the LDS church the ends always justify the means.

Why else would they instruct missionaries to lie for the lord so much?

Why would Joseph Smith order a printing business be destroyed?

The Mountain Meadows Massacre?

Brigham Young?

If they see an end in their favor, the means are irrelevant.

"In the LDS church the ends always justify the means."

Absolutely. That is the name of the game in Mormonism.

In the American Horror Story: Asylum season, the psychiatrist performs aversion therapy on Lana when he finds out she's a lesbian. He explains that BYU has been conducting this kind of research.

I found out about Evergreen when I was at BYU in the late 90s. I found it on their very own database. It happened, it's cruel and sickening, and not as well known as it should be.

I don't really believe this. I do know a gay exmormon who was sent to a "re-education" center in the Northeast before his mission to try to eliminate his gay thoughts. Guess what? It didn't work though he told them that it did so that he could go on his mission. Then he got to spend time with male companions 24/7. He wasn't stupid ;-)

I do not understand why TSCC is so against gay people. Some of my very favorite people in this world are gay and they were born gay! Stepping down from soapbox...

it did happen. and there is plenty of evidence.
Monson was head of the program that did this. It happened at BYU in the 70's.

google or youtube gay aversion therapy BYU mormon church.

there are plenty of interviews with the people who they electrocuted.

One 14 yr old boy was sent there while his bishop lied to his parents and told them he was at "genealogy camp".

Disgusting.

oh yeah, they forced him to also vomit while watching gay porn (which he had never seen before).

I had found out about this when I was still in the church last year, and I couldn't ever again raise my hand "to the square" and sustain Monson as a prophet.

No way in hell.

What's clever about it? It's like trying to shock people into changing their eye colour.

Not clever. Just what happens when idiots listen to cult leaders rather than their own kids.

How have you avoided hearing about Evergreen until now? This was not isolated to Tempe, there was a whole program in Utah that existed well into the 90s. And yes, women were subjected to it too.
There was electroshock as well as revulsion therapy through IV administration of an emetic.

I think the porn was probably donated by Marriott inc....

The torture equipment was probably provided by the Strengthening Members Comittee.

Makes one wonder if they ever discussed or tried water boarding homosexual persons.

I have always wondered what happened to the gays the LDS church tortured. Are they still alive or did the Danites kill them? Have any of them written a book about how the Lord's servants tortured them. What a failure another revelation from the Mormon god was.

links to the reparative therapy done at BYU. Also, SL Cabbie has the story of a lesbian who was also put through this at BYU.

This WAS done at BYU, if not other places. From what I've read, they were supposed to supply their own porn, but I may be wrong.

It has been a long time since I read these articles.

And YOU BET they did it.

During the years I was trying to find a "cure" for my gay boyfriend/husband, I heard about this. It sickened me. It showed me that they HAVE NO CLUE about gays. THIS from the "one and only true church."

Yes, this was done at YBU. I attended an ex-mo conference in Vegas where we heard from a guy who had it done to him - at YBU.

They didn't shock their genitals.

A device called a "plethysmograph"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penile_plethysmograph

was attached to the male organ. Then the dirty pictures were
shown. If the subject exhibited a penile reaction to viewing
gay porn then a shock was administered, usually somewhere on the
thigh.

There was a device attached to the sexual organ, but that was
not what was shocked. This is one of the bits of misinformation
that becomes well known because it is more sensational that way.

Although that's not as bad, it's still pretty bad.

If the shock to the arm was any less painful it wasn't by much. They still were told to wear long sleeve shirts to cover the burn marks on the arms.

What is important to remember isn't the electricity involved as hideously disgusting as that was. The message was sent that you weren't wanted as you are. As you are, you are disgusting.

The electricity running through their bodies was only half as bad as the shame heaped upon these dear kids--the unbelievable shame. That was the real torture.

And they couldn't change. They were caught. Their struggle counted for nothing. Some ended it the only way they knew how. Death.

The Mormon prophets have blood on their hands.

Some were given IV emetics - I think a lot of what was done depended on where and when this torture took place.

These three videos were posted by antidiety and consist of interviews with people involved in aversion torture over decades. One of the men is the 15 year old sent to BYU for a genealogy conference.

I heard this was done too. I was a high school student in the 80s and knew I was gay. I heard that they did this. As soon as I graduated, I got a job and moved out and never returned to church. I have been with my partner (now husband) over 20 years. On YouTube there is a video on how Mormons view homosexuality. It's a joke. This girl is giddy and tries to make it like they accept gays. She then brings her gay brother on to tell everyone that he will never have sex. Other options included marrying a woman! Are you kidding me? Why would you do that to a woman? It's cruel. I NEVER heard a kind word about gays when I was growing up in the church. Maybe things have changed, but the options you have if you are gay are stupid!

There is a professional organization called Association of Mormon Counselors and Psychotherapists (AMCAP). If you want to know more about what was going on with the "treatment" of homosexuality in the 1960s-90s as it pertains to the Church, I have the following articles from AMCAP which may give you a good idea:

* A Retreat From Hypersexuality The De-Emphasis of Overt Sexuality in Homosexual Change Therapy

* Counseling the Homosexual In A Private Practice Setting

* Homosexuality Getting Beyond the Therapeutic Impasse

* Special Issue - Homosexuality

Additionally, I have the following documents which may be of interest:

* The Penile Strain Gauge and Aversion Therapy - Measuring and Fixing the Sexual Body

* Max Ford McBride's BYU PhD thesis: Effect of Visual Stimuli in Electric Aversion Therapy

I don't think RFM has internal PM functionality, so I'm not sure the easiest way for you to contact me. I can post a Dropbox address here that contains all the docs, but I'm not sure that is allowed here. Somebody have a suggestion?

Here's a lot of information of gays and the CULT.

Be sure to <control> <f> "Thomas Monson" to see how the current prophet was mixed up in the torture of gay youth.

Unfortunately it is not just the Mormons who have tried these therapies. The Southern Baptists have too. There was a place in Memphis called "Love in Action" that did "reparative therapy." There is a great documentary about it that was on Netflix at one time. Not sure if it still is. Here's the IMDB Link:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0853155/plotsummary?ref_=tt_ov_pl

In the summer of 2005 a 16yo Memphis, TN wrote on his MySpace blog about his parents sending him to a "Fundamentalist Christian" program that strives to turn gay teens straight. This documentary follows the inspirational story of this teens local community standing up for their friend with daily protests at the facility in what would become an international news story. The documentary features several former clients of the organization who tell their personal stories about the time they spent within the programs walls.
