Yep, Stake primary kids 8 and over who are baptised can go on the Stake Primary Temple Baptism Day. I have problems with this.

1. They are doing work for "dead people." Children are coming to grips with life and death issues as part of growing up. I see this a problem because it focuses on death rather than life.

2. What 8 to 12 year old really knows what baptism is really about as a doctrinal issue? So baptism becomes something less important.

3. Starting children at a young age going to the temple will not make it as important. When something becomes too common, people tune out.

So I am trying to make sense of wht the Church is doing this?

Are you sure? They have never let 8 year olds go to the temple as far as I know. You had to be 12 to do baptisms for the dead. My youngest is 15 and her LDS friends, just 3 years ago, were so excited to go to the temple for baptisms for the first time. When did they change church policy from having to wait until you are 12 to being able to go when you are 8?

It may be that the kids will stay outside... my guess.

Then why call it a primary baptism day?

I have no idea... I'm going off of what the OP mentioned and guessing what it might mean.

But I will tell you this: I have not heard of any official change in age to conduct baptisms for the dead. I doubt that this stake is going rouge and ignoring church policy.

The whole temple thing is weird. Once I went with the kids to the temple to do baptisms and I was the first time dunker. I thought it would be a very solemn and spiritual event. I was wrong. We all couldn't wait to get it done and out of there. I had never done 258 baptisms before. It was totally crazy.
