Did he use those words just because he can't come up with anything on his own better than JS could, or was it code talk to Mormons?

And the funny thing is that of all the things the mormons love to spout out which they seriously DO NOT believe, it is the 11th article of faith. What they really believe is that WE should be able to worship according to the dictates of our on conscious (or the dictates of our brainwashing) and YOU should all respect that even if almighty gawd told our founder that all of your religions are an abomination.

We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may, unless of course they were once mormons at any time in their past, in which case we will expel them from BYU. We also believe in other consequences for not believing Joseph Smith was a prophet, which includes barring them from attending a relative or friend's wedding, and extends all the way to separating them from their loved ones for time and all eternity.
