I only watched the first part of the First Presidency Christmas Devotional because Dieter is the only one I can handle. The church really must be hurting for money if the YM President has to reference tithes and offerings in a PRAYER no less, as well as to seek APPROVAL for them!

http://lds.org/broadcasts/watch/christmas-devotional/2011/12?lang=eng&pid=1138246682001&pkey=AQ~~,AAAAjP0hvGE~,N-ZbNsw4qBrgc4nqHfwj6D_S8kJzTvbq

The asshole starts the reference at 1:01:51

"They draw near me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me."

BTW that guy is named David L. BECK! Those Becks must be something else a la Julie and Glenn. YEESH!

at the very beginning of the devotional.

First Presidency can't attract a crowd?

Maybe they will blank them out for re-broadcast and shoot the camara man who shot them.

PS The tithing settlement prayer was pretty funny. This guy must be bucking for a promotion to GA.

Church was cancelled in Davis and Weber counties yesterday for debri cleanup form thursdays storm.

They worked into the night.

Might help explain the empty seats. Or lack of interest.

Their hearts are on money, money, money, which is why talks and articles nowadays harp on OBEY, OBEY, OBEY and TITHE, TITHE, TITHE.

Creepy “obedience” incident at the MTC:

Link to RfM thread with the O.P., an early returned missionary, describing the brainwashing tactic at the MTC a few months ago, in which “3,000 19 year old guys in black suits” were required to shout, over, and over, "I WILL OBEY."

Be sure to read the O.P.’s second post way down in the same thread:
http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,350954,351275#msg-351275

And then, there is the recent First Presidency letter pushing members to increase their fast offerings (link to RfM thread on this):

To repeat: "They draw near me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me" describes the church LEADERS!

I'm glad somebody remembered this! I always thought it was kind of funny because they told us we were paying tithing with our LIVES! (almost 20 years, 2 year mission)

Only a step away from brownshirts shouting out the same thing.

Insistence on OBEDIENCE makes me extremely nervous.

QUESTION AUTHORITY !!

from their own book

THE BOOK OF MORMON
Mormon CHAPTER 8
32 Yea, it shall come in a day when there shall be churches built up that shall say: Come unto me, and for your money you shall be forgiven of your sins.

These tithing references are like cat hair...there's always one in there.

Is he trying to look like his eyes are closed and making it up as he goes, or is he squinting to read a notecard??

He kind of has a weasel look to him.

I may never be done with that sh*t, but being done with it mentally puts me in a whole new realm. It is so much easier to watch it, comprehend nothing and totally forget it in 5 minutes.

Seems like a Ford salesman. Perhaps I'm confused.
