According to the latest whitewash, the number of missionaries will peak early fall this year at about 78,000.

Just one year ago, in June of 2013, unnamed sources in the Morg predicted at least 100,000.

They will insititue a new program, tarted up with all the usual rhetoric about Hastening the Work. The new program will involve all "worthy" young men and women over the age of sixteen to Preach my Gospel every day as soon as they get home from school. After all, developing a personal life hardly matters when the salvation of the world is at stake!

I am half joking. Don't be surprised at all if this really happens.

I imagine the thinking was something like, "If we add 18-yr-old males to the 19- and 20-yr-olds, that would be a 50% increase. And if we add 19- and 20-yr-old females to the 21- and 22-yr-olds, that would be a 100% increase. Woo! 100,000, here we come!" But despite the hype and the "hastening," not enough young people were moved to join God's army of sales clones.

Yes, they probably made some linear projection without realizing that the more they try to increase, the participation rate will drop somewhat. In other words, the more they ask, the more unwilling people they will encounter.
