Dallin Oaks spoke that gay rights are ”newly alleged” civil rights. Applying his words to the following recent incident (non-LDS), the rights of two human beings were only "alleged". Their home was burned and they lost everything -

While Oaks has alleged that the LDS suffer backlash for their stance on morality, his counterpart Boyd K. Packer has in fact advocated violence against gays.
http://www.affirmation.org/news/2000_46.shtmlOf particular concern is the recent re-release of the pamphlet To Young Men Only which admonishes young LDS men to "protect themselves" by physically assaulting gays when confronted with their homosexuality. This was re-released at the same time as the Matthew Shepard murder trials. Very few people in the LDS Church are aware that one of the two young men convicted of Matthew Shepard's beating death was a young Mormon Priesthood holder.
Here are the inspired words of Boyd K. Packer -
http://www.lds-mormon.com/only.shtml"I hit my companion."
"Oh, is that all"
"Somebody had to do it, and it wouldn't be well for a General Authority to solve the problem that way"
It wouldn't be well for an apostle to hit someone, but its acceptable for an apostle to say that it has to be done. Nice words of inspiration from an apostle.
