I'm new here and I keep seeing "TBM" and I think it means "The Book of Mormon" but people use it in different contexts, so I'm not really sure... could someone explain this to me? Sorry for the dumb question...

This list will help you with abbreviations.

When used in a sentence...

A TBM would recommend prayer, reading the BoM, and fasting to get the answer to your question from the Spirit, but a former Mormon would recommend doing your homework and using your brain.

Enjoy RfM. You can abbreviate my name to GS, although GentleStrength works best.

Hope it helps. The list does not include the last name of the Mormon Jesus. He goes by Jesus Smith as revealed by the Latter-day prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley.

The Evangelicals get it wrong and call Jesus the Christ or JC. He is Jesus Smith, I don't think he goes by Jesus the Smith though. Maybe "cool Mormons" use that name.

You might want to click on "Glossary and Abbreviations" at the top of this page. It's a handy guide to all of the terms used here.

Enjoy.

There's a couple that need to be added to the list - NOM and Morridor. Who do we ask?

It took me a while to remember what all of the acronyms mean.

Every time I see this question or a similar one I think: "Sweet! another one bites the dust".

I heard the Joseph F. Smith story many, many times growing up about his having been held at gunpoint and asked about his convictions. He answered, "Yes, siree; dyed in the wool; true blue, through and through."

That's what I thought TBM meant for a long time until I heard someone say "true believing Mormon" and I looked at the acronyms list. I still read it in my mind, "true blue Mormon."

I don't know about NOM.
Morridor is the section of the US which is Utah, So. Idaho, and parts of Nevada and Arizona, the corridor where the CULT population is especially high. The capitol of the Morridor is Provo/Orem.

My poem (from the Lord of the Rings) helps me remember it:

One CULT to rule them all;
One CULT to find them;
One CULT to bring them all and
in the darkness bind them
in the land of Morridor where the shadows lie.
