Mormons and their self fulfilling belief principles. The title of this thread is something that I was told very often on my mission by companions.

They sometimes seemed to think of everything as miracles, and I just never saw it that way.

"Jennifer said she was thinking about joining a church and we just happened to run into her today, this is such a miracle, now I know this is the Lord's work"

Actually that's a coincidence and a rather common one especially being a missionary.

I used to think I was just pessimistic, now I realize that I was just sane.

On a related note in the vein of crazy sayings, here is the quote of the day from my local ward.

"I just found out my parents haven't been paying tithing for months, my heart is shattered and broken for them."

Yep, we had a tithing lesson on Easter.

If disbelief alone can make something vanish, then how substantial can that thing have been in the first place?

I hate how they think.

And if you don't believe in science, all the proof in the world won't convince you of sh!t.

But people who don't believe in science use microwaves and cell phones and computers. They use air conditioning and refrigeration and automobiles and airplanes, etc. All products of hard science.

I was once told that the idea of evolution is "stupid" because of it's complexity, I suppose. My response was, "It doesn't matter if you think any science is stupid, it remains true in its current form for as long as it can be proven with demonstrable and observable evidence."

You will never see a fairy if you don't believe in fairies.

But if you believe in fairies, maybe - just maybe - you might see one!

Or maybe your mania over fairies will cause your brain to imagine the presence of a fairy. Then you will be validated and happy.

Same difference though

Reality is what doesn't go away when you stop believing in it.

It's the confirmation bias--if you expect something to happen, you will interpret reality in a way that confirms that expectation.
