This is the first time I've seen any here in Reno, but as soon as they walked in, I knew they were mormons. We were in a nice restaurant in town that has a bar area that's a lot more pleasant than the boring dining room.

He was wearing a white shirt and tie, and she was in a long prairie skirt and long sleeved blouse. They smiled as they seated themselves at the next table. Sure enough, they both ordered diet cokes. It's all good.

The waiter asks us if we'd like wine with our dinner. We order a pinot and a rye. Oh, here comes the waiter with our drinks! Except, he delivers them to the mormons. The man says "those aren't ours!" and the woman is horrified. She whacks me on the shoulder and says to me "Nice try!" As if I'd tried to get her to down Satan's own blood in a goblet.

Gah . . . .!!!! I'm sure they'll be speaking of us in Farce and Testicle meeting next time around about how they had a brush with satan himself and they never should have sat down in that bar with "those" people.

She HIT you? Because a waiter in Reno of all places accidentally delivered drinks to the wrong table? Wow.

You should have called over security and told them that the woman hit you, and had them removed from the bar area.

I LOVED my time living in Reno in the early 1990's. I lived south of town not too far from Mt. Rose Hwy. When I left they were just starting to build Wolf Run Golf Course, which would have been practically in my back yard. My business was off of Moana Lane and I had MANY after-midnight $5.99 steak and eggs specials at the Peppermill. I really enjoyed my time there.

For the only time in my life, I also didn't mind the church there too much either. It seemed different. When I had my first visit with the Bishop after moving there, he actually asked my if I felt I needed home teachers. I was surprised and told him that I thought being assigned a home teacher was mandatory. He told me no...only if I felt I needed them. I asked him if it would be O.K. if I started without them but later if I felt I needed them some would be assigned. He said, "Great". And that was great with me.

Then later I had another Bishop who, when the Super Bowl fell during our block time, felt "inspired" that we should skip the last two hours after sacrament meeting to go home and "spend more time with our families." Awesome!!

I used to love to drive my TBM wife (now ex) crazy by going to the grocery store with her. We would ALWAYS run into someone from the ward...usually while she was shopping and I was playing the slots at the front of the store. Never failed, she would get all checked out and find me talking to some ward member while I was sitting playing video poker. LOL!! Good times.

The one regret I have about living in Reno...I should have spent WAY more time hanging out at Lake Tahoe. It took moving away for me to realize that.

I think the woman was trying to be friendly and playful, but it was a major fail. How can she be sure that you are not recovering from shoulder surgery or have an aversion to being touched by strangers?

Exactly, I don't think she meant anything by it, but I was a bit taken aback by her action. Plus, we were kind of back to back so I don't think her aim was what it should have been.

My only comment to them was I said "I knew that wasn't going to end well." Hahaha!!

Ironically, a glass of wine is healthier than the chemical stew of a diet coke.

Trying way too hard - almost desperate for people to notice she's angelically abstaining from alcohol. Yawn.

But two can play at that game. I'm someone who intensely dislikes being touched by people I don't know unless it's by accident. This would have been highly annoying to me to the point that I might have made a point to begin talking enthusiastically to my dinner companion about how the last sibling in my large family finally left TSCC recently, and how happy we all have been. I would also have made a conscious effort to discuss other, very important things:

"....and so I said to George, 'If you're going to pop the question you that know Jack's going to insist upon morning wear for the both of you, right?' Then I told him the perfect compromise - formal wedding attire for both guys, and George can have one layer of the wedding cake extra-specially baked..."

Sometimes I'm nice, sometimes I'm not. If provoked by pawing during juvenile fishing expeditions for validation, I tend to err on the snippy side. It's a fault.

They're certainly not properly socialized. I speak as someone who grew up mormon (and not in Utah) and was not properly prepared for being in non-mormon company.

At least they were adventurous enough to be in a bar!

Nice to see Reno people here. Has there ever been a Reno meet-up? I'd go.

I don't think there are more than about three of us.

We may be moving to Reno this summer. We've had a great time on our trips there.

I really love it here. When you get past the casinos (who are vital to employment and serve their purpose, in my opinion), there is beautiful scenery, a proximity to great places to visit, a low cost of living, and a really beautiful river running through town. There is also a number of good restaurants and venues with a younger, hipper vibe. Oh, and some great history!

Maybe, but I see Ex-mo people everywhere I turn. I know more exmormons than Mormons. Reno has a lot!(I guess we just don't see them here).

It's much easier to spot the mos than the exmos!

Maybe more than that. I've wondered at times if I was the only one here, nice to know I have a little company.

When I first read the topic line of this thread, I thought it was the opening line of a joke:

"I was having a nice evening in a bar when three Mormons walked in..."

A similar thing happened when dining in San Francisco with my very TBM brother. The waiter accidentally brought someone else's drinks to our table. My brother reacted as if a live grenade had been placed before him.

I've golfed with an exmormon accountant in Reno. I don't think he's on here because he seemed a bit in the dark about some historical issues. But when I found out he was an ex-mo, I sure unloaded some mormon baggage on him in thirty minutes of beer and pool.
