The temple recommend question asks if we are honest in all our dealings.
The Doctrine and Covenants explicitly says that the lowest kingdom awaits those who love and tell a lie.
The Washing and Anointing temple ceremony contains a blessing on your lips that they may never speak guile.

At the end of my participation in the church, a conversation ended like this-
Me: So, it's okay to lie if it keeps people in the church?
Bishop: Yes.
Me: That's all I need to know.

My biggest problem when discovering all the falsehoods, was the overwhelming evidence of the Lord's Anointed lying about almost every facet of the doctrines and history of the One True Church.

But you know what? If someone uses dishonesty to keep you interested, then you know they are acting on their own behalf at your expense. The LDS church is not your salvation, you and your time and talents are the churches salvation.
