I was reading a thread on shipping alcohol to Utah. It is true, the laws are tough on the alcohol industry here. But did you know there is an Urban Winery in downtown SLC? I work here at Kiler Grove Urban Winery and it is on 53 W. Truman Avenue S. SLC. We do free tastings on 6-9 wines a day. There is no need to try and smuggle something through the mail. Come in and find a new favorite!

I like being able to taste it before I buy.

Found a really great Arizona Brut - inexpensive too.

What do the state taxes run per bottle? Is it true that the state decides which wines will be offered at the state liquor stores and who will be excluded? Have any local producers been able to get shelf space at the state liquor stores?

Can you sell on Sunday?

Hey kurtis,

I might be wrong, but generally you would want to go through the administrators of this site before you advertise anything.

If they've already cleared that then by all means continue.

I apologize for not following protocol. I was trying to reply in the thread "Shipping Wine to Utah" and it would not let me. I was just trying to help the individuals in that particular thread find another option. I'll follow up with the admins now.

No worries, everyone makes mistakes. I'm sure you'll be fine. :)

Moab has a couple of good wineries.

Castle Creek and Spanish Valley, though the latter may have sold and changed the name. The state liquor store there sells local wines, just ask. They also have some good ones from over the state line in the Grand Valley in Palisade, Colorado.

Whoops, this is a reply to below.

What are the names of the Moab wineries? Any recommendations? I'm headed down that way next month.

For those that are adventurous, Layton Utah has a Hivery, a place that sells flavored mead. Mead is made from fermented honey.
