Quick, take that down, there's no reference to Camels in the PoGP and someone will use the article as proof that Joseph's translation is inspired by omitting references to Camels.

Of course, he did do the whole JST thing without removing the Camel references...

Oh, there were horses in the Americas, but Satan has deceived scientists into thinking that they went extinct due to the loss of protein-rich forbs during and following the last ice age. Of course, we all know that it was because the Nephites ate most of them during the seige by the Gadianton masons...errrr...robbers.

An interesting quote from the article about how multiple scentific disciplines go into this type of research:

"We should realise that the results presented in this paper would have never been obtained without a very broad collaboration (30 teams from 12 countries) involving the following scientific areas: ancient DNA, palaeo-ecology, taxonomy, molecular ecology, community ecology, zoology, bioinformatics, molecular genetics, and geology."

Believing the bible means that, by default, you also believe millions of scientists across all disciplines collude to compile evidence undermining the specific claims found therein.

Some people on the board could give a whit for empirical evidence. Some need a majority of historians to agree before allowing such things to carry any weight. ;)

The PoGP (Pearl of Great Price) may not mention camels by name, but who knows what Joe Smith had in mind when he mentioned a lot of other animals that did not exist in the Americas during the time Joe was supposedly documenting, err, translating about, or confabulating.

If we just translate everything Joe said wrong to mean something else, we'll be okay.

I'm sure they were "just speaking as men", but I was taught in church that Abraham was a wealthy herdsman AND TRADER. He needed camels to do all his international travel and business, according to Mo teachings about Abraham's trips, like to Egypt and Syria, and who knows where else. :)
