There is a thread I just read on the "other" exmormon board (red it). Entitled, "I confided in my bishop something personal. The 'spirit' told him I was lying. Years later, I'm still picking up the pieces." Long story short, she told her asshole, creepy bishop that she was raped. Instead of helping her, he pulled his counselors into a room and prayed to know if she was telling the truth. "The spirit" told them she was lying, so she was excommunicated.

My blood is boiling right now. I'm so angry. I wish I could punch this sorry excuse for a man in the gut. I want to see this church burned to the ground. I am horrified to think of all of my family members who are still in it's grasp. I am so very fucking thankful that all of my siblings have left.

That's all I have, I just am really angry and need to vent somewhere.

I personally know someone who was raped on her mission. She was sent home and disfellowshipped.

This breaks my heart that she was punished and humiliated in this way for no fault of her own.

She admitted she was breaking a mission rule when it happened so that's why they felt justified in crucifying her. You know, she was asking to be raped. They told her not to call the cops and got her no medical care. Of course, years later she was appalled that she had allowed herself to be treated like that. Can you imagine being in a foreign country as a young 20-something virgin and going through such an ordeal? All the while worried for several weeks that you could be pregnant.

For me it was 94' it makes me angry when I hear how often this happened to other girls and that it is STILL happening.

The questions her bishop asked her about masturbation were particularly sickening. Asking her if she penetrated and what objects she used when penetrating. Seriously?!?! He's not asking that for her benefit.

The questions he asked her made it sound like *he* was masturbating... in front of her... asking her the questions. Creepy creepy creepy. I was uncomfortable enough just being asked about masturbation in the first place, before I even knew what they were asking, but so much detail... eew.

I also raged when I read that he told her she was "walking porn" and that he "knew [she was] trouble" just by looking at her.

I was raped. My bishop didn't believe me either. Put me on pRobation for a year. His reasoning was I did not follow the law of chastity. The sad part is I blamed myself for years. My parents did not believe me. My bishop did not believe me. It was only years later I realized how horribly wrong the adults in my life handled this and how much they put me through. The bishop had since passed away. To this day my parents still don't believe me. People don't name names because they are afraid. After being victimized like that You typically just want to hide, never really talk about it. All you want to do is feel safe and protected. By naming names, you feel and open to judgment. Don't get me wrong, i do believe people like this should be reported and bright to justice. Just explaining from my point of view and personal experience why some people don't name names.

My stepdaughter was raped at 13. She told the bishop. He told her to stop taking the sacrament and to come and talk to him again in a week.

She didn't tell us about it because she felt intensely ashamed.

She started refusing to go to church, because not taking the sacrament starts tongues wagging immediately - you know how that goes. Our home life turned to hell for the next few years. Her behavior spiraled out of control.

She resigned from the church when she turned 18. Then we finally learned what had happened. By then, the rapist was in jail for something else (long-term sentence) so we never took legal action.

She said later that she didn't want us to know because she would be "forced" to go to a hospital for an exam and made to testify in court and she didn't want to do that.

Shouldn't a bishop, under such circumstances, be required to report the sexual abuse of a minor? Since we didn't learn until five years later, and the rapist was in prison anyway, we didn't see any point in reporting by then.

We voted with our feet, as the saying goes, and have taken our faith elsewhere.

Our daughter refused to go to counseling. She is nearing 30 now and while she is making some positive steps, I don't have a lot of hope. The rapist - and the bishop who shamed our daughter instead of helping her - have caused a lot of damage.

Yes, yet the LDS church fought in court AGAINST a Utah law that requires it.

proud2bapostate,

Do you have any additional information that would help me find this information about the church opposing such laws? I'm doing some research on gender and sex in the LDS church and this would be great information if I could track it down.

Thanks!

I shouldn't ever click on such a topic.

I get so angry, I just glare at the screen and seethe.

This is why I use the word "evil" in describing TSCC.

If the Mormon church hadn't worked so hard to protect the rapist the FIRST NINE times, my niece wouldn't have been one of his victims.

He's still out there. He has his own little kids to molest now. Or, their friends.

My sister was raped and was subject to discipline also back in the late 80's. Many bishops simply suck shit.

Things like this make me extremely angry, especially as I know girls who are being raised in this sick cult. They're being taught that the bishop can be in a room alone with them, and that God wanted him to serve as their local leader.

I am not surprised at this at all. When I first joined the LDS church, my boss (member of stake pres and psychiatrist who baptized me LDS) took me aside, broke patient/client confidentiality and warned me never to be alone near one male member of the ward - that he was a serial rapist but the church, instead of doing something, just kept moving him from one ward to another in the Stake. The Stake SP knew about this guy.

Later I found out, that the victims were counseled by the leadership not to report him and were threatend with discipline if they went to the police. 2 of the women did not follow this 'counsel' and did report him were excommunicated for sex outside of marrige.

As awful as it is, it's the natural outcome of a patriarchal emotion-driven cult where every temple session reinforces that Eve brought about the fall.

I was raped and when I told the bishop what happened. He assumed that I had asked for it and that I must have liked it. I was around 15, I had to stop taking the sacrament and a bunch of other shit.

Sickening. She even posted a letter from the bishop where he blames her for "allowing" things to happen to her.

The names of these POS bishops needs to be published. The fact they are allowed to get away with this and face no consequences is obscene!!!

Happened to me as well. Well, I didn't get exed; I was put on probation. At only 15. They might as well have pasted a Scarlet A on my chest -- putting a 15 year old on probation is tantamount to burning the witch at the stake anyway.

Anyway, while I appreciate the outrage of some of my fellow posters, I think I finally understand how my illegally-married-for-20-years gay friend feels: Where the hell was all this outrage when I was going through my painful moment? Why were there no adults in my ward who thought it obscene that pervs get to get away with it without consequences?

I wanted to say that I had a friend [this was in the 80's] who had been sexually abused by a relative as a minor and was ex-ed for it. Years later when she tried to get rebaptized, she was told she had TO WRITE A LETTER TO THIS RELATIVE FORGIVING THEM or they would not rebaptize her.
I have no idea why this was done to her or why they treated HER like the "sinner" when she was abused by an adult and she was a minor. She could not do it.[write the letter] It was a very close relative, I can't say who or it might be saying too much.

I think the Mormon cult is a boy's club and run by greedy uncaring a**holes.

Has a young BOY ever been sexually assaulted by an LDS predator? Everybody knows that females are guilty of being victimized, but do Mormons see it differently if the victim is MALE??

Depending on where the boy and his family fall in the LDS hierarchy, I think there could be one of two responses:

1) What happened to the boy was a hideous crime and they go after the predator with guns locked and loaded (metaphorically speaking) or

2) They could decide (with all their hefty discernment powers) that the boy actually wasn't raped at all, he kinda got off on it, so it was really HIS fault, and he gets exed for being gay.

I don't recall hearing if this has happened.

The boys are usually blamed in favor of the adult male abusers.

My love to all of you who were victims of rape AND of tscc. They raped you again!! How HORRIBLE!!! I mean really, PRAYING about whether you were guilty or not and then saying you were!! Putting you on PROBATION for something you had NO control over!! UNBELEIVEABLE!!!!

It is the old boys club thinking that all women asked to be raped and it is EVIL!!!!

I am VERY VERY angry about it all!

This behavior of the church is so typical of their "blame the

victim" pathology. It makes me sick to contemplate all the women

that this has happened to. This is one of the reasons why the

Mormon church is a toxic, hateful and degrading organization.

What a hard way to learn that the "holy spirit" doesn't exist.
