We have an antique clock that is quite erratic, but looks nice on the mantel. My wife insists that we keep it wound because she likes the soothing sound of its ticking, and the chimes. But you can't count on it if you want the correct time. It's almost always wrong.

It occurred to me that the clock is just like what the church has now admitted a Mormon prophet is: soothing to listen to, decorative, occasionally right, but not really reliable all the time.

Great object lesson.

correction: NEVER reliable. Not ever twice a day, as are clocks.

If it's running slowly, it may only be right every once in a while.

A stopped clock will be right twice a day.

You can fix the clock.

I have to say that the clock, as imperfect as it is, teaches us important lessons about the concept of time and mortality, and really, aren't those more important truths than your limited, narrow concept of what a clock is?

You're just another sad example of a disgruntled, anti-clockist who was offended by an imperfect member. If you pray and study this out in your heart, you will come to know the deeper meaning and worth of the clock.

Repent!

Yes, like the prophets, the clock is sometimes right.

But, also like the prophets, you can never know when that is.

.......like clocks, it wouldn't be surprising to learn a few of the old fossil's mainsprings are either broken, weak, or wound way too tight....(BKP).

Clocks, like the LDS Church believes in their prophets, seers and revelators, only work in their time.
Our current clocks are a rather new invention.
So it is with the LDS Church's claim of Modern Day Revelation. There will be those that accept the current teachings and those that do not.
So they will be "wrong" if they are out of sinc with the current prophet's teachings as dead prophets don't lead the LDS Church in their belief system.

To keep it wound up, is the trick. It's very difficult to keep old relics ticking let alone reliable.

Old relics? Are you talking about clocks or Mormon apostles?

If Mormonism is Richards clock, then reason is the sun. Once you understand it's core tenants, the sun is never wrong.

But I doubt your clock has ever organized a campaign to deprive 10% of humanity of their rights or induced such guilt in adolescents that they kill themselves.
