Families are told that only God can judge the deceased

About suicides, families are told that only God can judge the deceased.
Why is it if you are alive they can judge you but if you are dead they can't?

Good question. Because they need to be able to judge the living to shore up their own beliefs. They can afford to give the dead a break.
