for my nephew and let me tell you this thing was well done almost like a graduation announcment compleat with pictures of a sharp little 8 yo boy posing in his new suit!

It read "so and so" is turning 8! and getting baptized please join us for this for this wonderfull occasion.

Yack! I feel bad for this little boy. He doesn't know any better because HE'S 8! Im sure he think's it's awsome. A party held in his honor compleat with food, cake and of coarse gift's and all the family member's lauding him for his great achievment in life.

So my wife and I are not bringing a gift because first this is not a gift worthy achievment in my mind and second our children will not be getting baptized as they are not being raised LDS and thus will not recieve the praise and gift's that their cousin's recieve from grandparent's and other family for such a meanial thing in life.

I wonder if he will get a real gold CTR ring?

Lol!! A while back, my wife and I took our CTR rings to the pawn shop and got $91 for them and some other cheap jewelry.

We did this on a Sunday!

Clouds surrounded us and we thought we'd be struck by lightning but the bolt missed us and hit a Mormon church down the street instead. Lol, j/k

I got an announcement just like this for my niece, this week. It stated she has "chosen" to become a member. Gag. It had a picture of her studying her Book of Mormon. Then it had a funny one of her having a surprised look on her face, holding the scriptures. If only they knew how hilarious I thought it was.

That's what gets me... the word "chosen." I got a friend's kid's baptism announcement in the mail recently and it said "She has chosen to be baptized on such and such date..." I'm like, really? She chose it? Because when I was 8, I didn't have a choice. I did it because it was expected! It was just what I was supposed to do! I don't think I *could have* chosen differently, even if my brainwashed little 8 year old mind wanted to!

Yes, you are mature enough and sufficiently informed at age eight to "choose" to join. But at 18, 28, or 68 you are NOT mature enough or sufficiently informed to "choose" to leave.

I'd give a present...maybe copies of "Rough Stone Rolling" and "In Sacred Lonliness". Write your anti-testimony inside the front covers.

I feel like my presence would lend unearned credibility.

I wouldn't mind giving a birthday gift and card or attending a birthday party, however.

You might want to plan a very special eighth birthday event for your own child enjoy if you live around Mormons who might want to trap your kid into feeling bad about not being baptized.

I remember how some Mormons I've known have made fun of pictures of proud children's First Communion, and yet it's technically exactly the same thing.

Follow Garrion Keillor's example. Just exclaim, "That was some baptism!"

I would do no different for this birthday than what you've always done, after all, 8th birthday is no different than any other.

Traversing the ellipse that constitutes Earth's orbit around the sun eight times isn't exactly cause for momentous celebration.

Nor should indoctrinating a child into a cult.

Poor Teancum. If he ever lives outside of Utah he'll have some explaining to do. If he ever leaves the church, he should have his name changed. What the hell is wrong with people?
