Was this bible verse ever discussed in church classes?

If it was ever brought up it would be to attack others rather than admitting it applied to JS et al.

Yes- I remember this verse from seminary. I was taught this verse had to do with all the other Christian churches.

And all the break away branches of Mormonism.

I've heard TBM's bring up this verse when discussing former bishops, RS presidents, etc... that have left the church.

"Well we know from the scriptures that even the very elect will be deceived in the last days."

It confirms their belief that Christ will return any day now. "The Hastening" doesn't help either. They obviously leave out the part about being deceived by FALSE PROPHETS...like Joe.
