What a great story and wonderful lesson. Thank God many in the congregation were wounded when he held up the mirror to them. I wonder how I would have reacted to him? Ouch.
At seminary in our ward a similar test was made. The teacher had a man made up as a bum lying near the chapel door to see if anyone tried to help. The only class member to react and do something - was one of my children. The others ignored the person who obviously needed help.
This story could be an urban legend, but there have been some social science experiments that have done this. Google "good samaritan study" or "good samaritan experiment"

I noticed there was no identification of the church or the city this took place in. And what is this ireportersTV.co site? Whatever their affiliation(s) is(are) is hidden in there somewhere, and I'm not going searching. But I did find this:
"ReportersTv is Africa’s #1 internet TV site. A revolutionary next generation social media site that combines news with video sharing.
Is the first of its kind that pays its contributors for views, every single time someone watches their video."
I think we got punked. I suggest that the moderators delete the thread.
dogeatdog wrote, "Oh, so totally untrue...? Sorry! Still a good lesson perhaps..." If I may challenge you, what if somebody said, "Oh, the BoM and the Book of Abraham may not be so totally true...sorry...(I think they) "still (provide) a good lesson perhaps..." No, I want what I believe in, and draw my life lessons from, to be true.

In slc at gateway mall their are usually bums pan handling on the corners. or people playing instruments i like the musicians. The homeless shelter is really near the gateway mall.
Just because the story is illustrated with a photo of an unidentified homeless man doesn't mean the incident didn't take place. Maybe the writer just didn't have a photo of the pastor involved.
