Bra and panties!! - no more Mormon Garments

by ddrakep

My wife has finally quit wearing her g's and I couldn't be happier. What were others peoples' thoughts when this happened to them? Love seeing how sexy she is again. They were so gross. [g's = garments - Mormon underwear that is given to Mormons who go through the temple endowment to wear 24 hrs per day]

Better than garmies.

I felt so free after I took them off. When I was TBM I enjoyed wearing my garments (I know lots of TBM girls who think they are sexy). Once I learned the truth, and finally had the nerve to take them off 5 months later it felt like I was finally out of bondage. The only problem was that for a few months I was always nervous what I wore in front of other TBMs because I was still in the closet and active. Now I don't care anymore.

My husband was terribly distraught and sad when he saw me in underwear the first time, but he really likes it now. He's never once asked me to put my G's back on.

When I went back to regular underwear
I felt like a person again. I felt such a profound sense of relief. Dh was still a believer, so he had mixed feelings. He was stressed out about the way things were headed, and he felt a sense of doom. He also felt guilty for definitely preferring to see my normal undies.

To his credit, he never asked me to go back and he was very supportive after I told him how it made me feel to choose my own underwear.

To celebrate, you should give her a gift card to Victoria's Secret or something. She can get a lot of nice things that will be comfortable for her to wear, and you will get the joy of seeing her in them.

Great Idea!!

Re: bra and panties!!
My daughter had a great body, and she likes to hang out in a sports bra and board shorts. When her TBM husband comes home unexpectedly, she tells him she's been working out. I used to do the same thing with my tennis outfits and swim suits. When you're doing sports, you don't have to wear garments.

Garments were really depressing. They made me feel old, and like I should be ashamed of my body. I think it's worse for women than for men.

No matter how good you look, g's make you feel fat and frumpy.

Good by straight jacket. Those things felt gross. Bunchy smelly frumpy. I would sweat in them so much It was not uncommon for me to change my underwear several times a day in the summer. The nylon felt slimy, the cotton felt like wearing a wet baby blanket.

I was hanging around outside the bishop's office the other night while they were doing interviews for baptisms for the dead. One of the other leaders needed a regular temple recommend interview, and the bishop said to make sure he was read the new statement regarding the wearing of the garment. Apparently, they have added that endowed members should wear it "even while doing yard work." ("Yea, verily, even while doing yardwork"?)

The bishop speculated that they must have been having trouble with people being too eager to get out of their garments and get out there to do yardwork.

Oh boy.

Life is so much more comfortable with no garmies!!! I recently told a tbm friend (yes, she is amazingly still my friend despite my apostasy, unlike many other "friends") that one of the best things about leaving the church was not having to wear garments. She replied, "that would be really nice, I would like that." Poor, poor tbm women. Garments and then a bra, pantyhose, and maybe even panties if you are on your period and need to wear a pad. Why or why do they do that to themselves? I never really took to garments, I only wore them about half the time. It was mostly a comfort issue, oh and going through the temple freaked the hell out of me, but that's another story.

When I decided I was done with tscc. I put all my garments in a trash sack and threw them in a garbage can. TBM dh was upset, but supportive- he thought it was a phase and I would regain my testimony eventually and was used to me wearing regular underwear anyway- he is now exmo also and recently just got rid of his. It was a happy day in the LochNessie household. Praise the universe!

This will be a major point of contention with members living in the south eastern United States, or any place else with a warm humid climate. In Utah that wouldn't be all that unbearable, a lot of other places, oldsters are going to die from heat exhaustion.

My wife runs in sport bra and shorts, then stays in them for a few hours. Also does yard work in same attire. Bishop has mentioned it, but wife responds that she overheats, so, no, ain't gonna happen.

If I go back, and get the symbols tattooed unto my skin, do I have to wear garments then? According to Steve Benson the symbols were originally carved into the flesh, so I figure that is the higher law. I would take that trade if I were TBM.

It was my favorite part about leaving
I actually ditched garments while I was still being marginally active. I took a peculiar delight in wearing shorts and a tank top to ride a bike around my PG neighborhood, stopping to talk with neighbors just like usual.

I was in graduate school at BYU at the time and deliberately wore white bras under white shirts to say, "I dare you to comment on my underwear!" No one did.

I graduated and we hightailed it out of Utah, never to return.

Re: It was my favorite part about leaving
And I sure don't blame you one bit for hightailing it out of Yewtawhrer when you were done at YBU. I did the same thing myself, In fact, when I drove across the state line going back East, I pulled off onto the side of the road, got out, looked back at Yewtawhrer and yelled, "HOORAY, I'M BACK IN REALITY!" True story, too. :-D

amazing how underwear can intimidate/control people, isn't it?

FACEPALM! Since when did that new statement come out?

I'm just glad I never wore garmies, but one thing I have done since leaving is that I refuse to buy white bras or panties.

Re: bra and panties!!
My TBM wife hates them and often doen't wear them in bed, which is obviously a good thing, but sometimes gives me false optimism that she is in any way ready to hear the truth about TSCC. She isn't. She just doesn't like wearing garmies. She feels guilty about not liking wearing garmies.

WTF kind of religion makes it's members feel GUILTY for not wearing a sack to bed?

Re: bra and panties!!
I don't know that it's a "read over the pulpit" kind of announcement--the bishop just mentioned that it had to be read to one of the YM presidency as part of his temple recommend interview. I overheard them talking about it this past week; they were discussing it with a former SP who is now in the YM program.

Re: bra and panties!!
So they don't have special summer garments that aren't so sweaty and hot?

guynoirprivateeye

I find the suggestion that there's an 'official' list of "exceptions"; activities that members can engage in without wearing garmies to be preposterous.

anyone knowing of this and 'believing' in Mormonism? WTF bizarre.

Re: bra and panties!!
Those rules are only for the ones who think they are going to heaven for being so stinking miserable day and night for all their adult lives.
The church taking over the bedroom is reason enough to leave. I'm surprised more people don't leave because of that.
When I was TBM all of my good friends didn't wear those burkas to bed. I'm amazed mo's have so many kids. Once you're married the church does all they can to kill the sex drive with rules and guilt.

NO! they want/need TBMs to pump out as many Future tithe-payers as possible!

Re: bra and panties!!
I took mine off before Hubby did his. Women G's are sooooooooo uncomfortable. Women just have a whole other level of issues that garments cannot accommodate for. They don't flatter anyone or any body type.

My SIL asked me once if I missed wearing them. Ummmm.....no.

Secretly I think TBM's envy those who don't have to wear them. They'd deny it till they died...but they're envious. The looks I get alone says it.

Re: bra and panties!!
It took me a few years after I stopped going to church to get up the courage to take my g's off. (Sounds crazy now!)

When I finally went shopping for panties I had no idea what kind to get so got all kinds to try out.

question health effects of garmies
Was it too tight? and as such cut off circulation and messed up the lymphatic nodes, prevented perspiration. I never reached the stage where I needed to wear Garmies, but I remember reading that in cases of too tight, clothing the body's functions are harmed. I used to wear a belt very very tight as a teen. or wear the collar, and it of course constructs the chest.. or wear tight underware (I live in China. so it's hard to find "large" (I'm fat), so it gets squished painfully.

Were the Garmies ever THIS uncomfortable, and as such since it is detrimental to our health as was the WoW was intended to prevent. Should the Garments have been worn at all?

All I remember was going to the temple and changing of the now soggy jump suits, and struggling like a escape artist magician in a box or something.
