Media reports are taking note of the repeatedly demonstrated fact that Romney is a Mormon who apparently is internally lacking in essential core moral values . . .

steve benson May 2012

Many examples of that obvious reality have been provided in mainstream media accounts where Mo Mitt displays this insidious personal impulse of his--one which reporters are finding particularly strange (not to mention increasingly frustrating), since Romney (supposedly a man of deep Mormon faith) who is openly seeking an office of public trust, is deliberately remaining an evasive engima to the nation due to his steadfast refusal to express moral principles that are supposedly rock-rib related to doctrinal particulars of his LDS religion.

Indeed, in his now-familiar duck and dodge routine, Mo Mitt recently declared:

“I’m sorry, we’re just not going to have a discussion about religion in my view. But if you have a question, I’ll be happy to answer your question. . . . No. Next question. . . . This gentleman wanted to talk about the doctrines of my religion. I’ll talk about the practices of my faith.”

("Romney: I’ll Talk Mormon Practices, Not Doctrine," by Georgetown/On Faith, 3 April 2012, at: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/under-god/post/romney-ill-talk-mormo...)

Romney's tactical traits of hiding and seeking, hemming and hawing, lying and lying low are all instilled in him because of--and are a result of--the historical moral relativism of his Mormon religion in which he has been a life-long (and clearly embarrassed) participant.

Pay no attention to the man behind the LDS doctrinal curtain. To the uninformed, Mo Mitt is a mystery--and he wants it to remain that way.

Mittens spent 2 years as a missionary selling mormonism. He was a bishop and stake president. He wasn't just a member that went to church on Sundays or holidays or for the social aspects only.

First of all, an argument can be made that there is no "Mormon Doctrine". Secondly, if you were running for President would you want to talk about "Mormon doctrine"? Most never-mos hear the basics of "Mormon doctrine" immediately start thinking "these people are whacko".

Of course he doesn't want to talk doctrine and yes Nevermos would think all of it so strange. But the way he shys away from all questions and flat out refuses to answer any question that is a sincere one, shows he is hiding something. He is a fake....a believer in name only or one who wants to get into office and then do "all things Mormon" to please the big guys. I think it is the latter. I think he likes being high up on that chain. He just has to ignore all of America so he is not put in any uncomfortable situations. This is why I can not vote for the guy.

One possible explanation to his strange, unchristian, and selfish behavior could be that he honestly believes he is exalted and not bound by the christian commandments because of a second annointing.

I have no evidence that he has been through the ritual, however, considering his status as LDS royalty my guess is that he has.

I vaguely recall during one of the conclaves of 1978 Cardinal Sebastiano Baggio was listed in a Newsweek or Time magazine article as one of several potential candidates for Pope but ruled out due to the "enigma of his beliefs."

I just checked the dictionary and "enigma" is still what I thought it was. Some things don't change.

Despite being a bishop and stake president, it's entirely possible he doesn't know his Mormon doctrine. He probably only knows enough to fulfill his calling and maintain his Mormon image. Most people in the church don't dig and don't question. That's how they remain LDS. The church keeps them too busy and too frightened to muck around in doctrinal issues. I find it reprehensible that you can get into leadership positions and be so uninformed about the dark underbelly of the church you are leading but there you are. Lots of us have had the opportunity to ask hard questions of local leaders, only to be met by shock, accusations of listening to anti-Mormon sources, disbelief and the ever popular "You just need to pray about it" catch all, blow off answer.

Mitt doesn't want to discuss Mormon doctrine for one of two reasons. Either he doesn't know enough to properly defend the church or he knows the church has something to hide.

Any argument can be made. Some are dumber than others. Mormons argue the "we don't teach that" line when they don't want to admit to their counter-culture history & doctrine.

The essential mechanism of confusion in the mormon mind...
is that you need a sense of permission from "the Lord" to think for yourself.
The church tells you to have your own opinion, but they don't mean it.
What they mean is make the gospel your own opinion, not the same thing at all as actually having your own opinion.

The sad fact of the matter is that the American public has developed an immunity against the hypocrisy demonstrated by overtly religious public figures who are lacking in essential core moral values, Mormon or otherwise.

There is little found in the unique teachings and doctrines of Mormonism that can be seriously defended ...
on either moral or rational grounds. "Good luck" to any politician--especially one under the most intense national and world spotlight--who tries to do so.

Best thing Romney can do is just ignore the uncomfortable issues and inevitable questions, and avoid or change the subject.

I wouldn't doubt that he is a closet doubter and that his religion is more just a family thing and a discipline he reaps benefits of power from.

I get the impression that Mitt knows his doctrine inside out. But he also knows that if he discusses it in detail people will think he's insane. He wants to talk about the practices (not doctrine) of his faith because that keeps everything very superficial and mainstream. "We don't drink or smoke and we believe Jesus is our saviour". That's as far as Mitt wants to go with that discussion.

Romney has the air of privilege only a self deluded and compartmentalized brain could manufacture for itself.
In Mormon royalty, lying isn't ever lying. It's deceiving the devil or beating Satan at his own game. Mormonism teaches their elite that the ends always justify the means, while the plebeians have to actually live by the rules.

Romney is morally bankrupt because he knows he has to hide the lies of Mormonism in order to avoid embarrassment and potential loss at the polls. He's lying to protect himself because he's a member of a lying cult. He even lied to the cult with his tithing being $1m short.

Mormons lie to everyone, especially to themselves.

Mitt has been around long enough to know EXACT SPECIFICS of Mo Doctrine.
Hell, I'm ten years younger than he is and I've been out of the cult 35 years and ***I*** remember exact specifics of Mo DOctrine -- INCLUDING the most effed-up details. After being a bishop AND a stake president, it is not possible that the Mittster doesn't know his Gawspell.

Of course we know that what the Mittster REALLY does not want to tak about are the covenants he made every time he went to the temple, starting in the 1960s, wherein he promised to put his cult FIRST, everything else (including the U.S.A.) SECOND, THIRD, or LAST.

I'm just surprised he hasn't recommended the media contact a couple of the cult's 19-year-old expert representatives to explain it all to them...
