I did my undergraduate BFA research paper on 'Green' marketing, and how many things consumers get pitched as 'green' really aren't so. For example, cloth diapers, paper grocery bags, non polystyrene 'Big Mac' packaging, etc., really aren't all that much more 'green'. I took a xeriscaping (water-wise gardening) class when I built my home, planning on having a water-saving garden. While I have incorporated some elements, I found buying water-reducing plant material was SO MUCH MORE expensive than grass, that I figured I could pay for several year's worth of watering on my reduced landscaping budget. I try to do what i perceive is good, like be frugal, try to reuse, recycle, etc., if it isn't too inconvenient.I've just grown jaundiced at the junk science many environmentalists emply to scare me into being 'earth-friendly'. Basically, their (not all) assumption is I am a earth-destroying asshole nitwit that needs their ass to save me from myself. Most people can be pretty sensible, and I'm not sure if the sequel to Affluenza really respected people's desire to be responsible, but also be budget and lifestyle conscious.

One thing that sucked, though, was finding out, at my office, that all the stuff we put in to be recycled, just ended up being dumped in the regular garbage anyway.
