The tone was enough new agey, love the planety that I had an immediate sort of non-attraction to it. As you say, quite a bit of impractical advice, and I'm not wealthy, but going through a lot of business to save $500 a year doesn't really get my attention.
Remember the grocery bag hysteria of a couple of years ago? I don't see many folks recycling their plastic bags anymore. Plus there's that old "recent studies indicate" see saw that clouds many of these issues. A prominent one I recal is the disposable vs cloth diapers. Disposable fill up land fills. Cloth use water supplies and add to problems like pollutants in the sewage (soap, not poop).
In my city, Mesa, AZ, theyused to have a nice recycling center with some big dumpsters where people could drop off plastics, cardboard, newspaper, glass, and aluminum. I used to recycle all of that stuff regularly there. They shut that place down and had no place that I could find to do this recycling. They then re-established this activity (sans plastic) in a much more hidden place and I don't recall any newspaper information explaining where to do recycling. I figure that they can't justify sucking money out of the city budget to do recycling.
