: One comment I received said, and I quote, "Had Nibley been born in a
: non-Jedeo-christian society, studied the ancients, and then converted to
: Mormonism based on his findings his 'credentials' may be a bit more
: interesting." To suggest that because someone is born a member of the
: Church, they can't be objective in their chosen field of study, is a
: ridiculous and uneducated statement with no basis or foundation.
It isn't that they *can't* be objective. They are less likely to be objective. This is a statistically proven statement. People are much less objective with regard to the religion, culture, etc. that they are born into. More than 80% of people stay faithful to the religion they are born into.
If you'd like to do a comparison, compare the objectivity of Hugh Nibley to that of say Stephen Thompson. Before you quote Kerry's response to Thompson here, realize that I've already read it and it doesn't hold water. No Egyptologist would support Kerry's erroneous conclusion.
: In all
: my studies, if I had ever found anything that would have shown the Church
: to be false, I would have left.
An apologist can never find anything to be false with the item they are defending. As a recoverying apologist of several decades I can bare you my testimony of this. Take off your apologist cap for a few minutes and then we can have an honest inquiry.
