Part of the issue is also the many mundane uses
for hemp aside from the THC. The lumber industry
I think back in the 30's or even earlier wanted
it banned so that trees would be used for paper
etc. rather than hemp. They didn't want the
competition.
At the time the canary breeders lobbied, saying
the canaries wouldn't sing without their hemp
seed. They convinced congress and I buy
sterilized hemp seed all the time. It sprouts
anyway when I soak it which doesn't say much for
the heat treatment they subject it to. They
sing whether I give it to them or not which just
goes to show you it's all just politics.
There also are several stores here in Seattle
selling clothing etc, made from hemp. Very
comfortable and durable, also quite expensive.
