That's one reason I subsume the right as a patient to prescribe myself anything I can get my hands on. While undergoing chemotherapy, I asked my oncologist about Marijuana. He said he would be happy to prescribe Marinol though he hadn't done so for over 15 years. He advised me that people who had never tried it, didn't like it much because of the side effects. Pot smokers with cancer liked it. He convinced me that the anti-nausia drugs he prescribed where much better so I didn't try Marinol or Marijuana.
However, I would be very upset if I didn't have the option. I would have got myself some by other means if I believed it would help and was denied it.
