This kid sounds very bright. Can you imagine the crap a Mormon kid would catch if he/she wrote a similar letter? Or, a Baptist kid for that matter?
This will be some overgeneralizing on my part but here goes anyways... Just my observations.
I taught all age groups of Mormon kids. I taught the Priests, Teachers, Deacons, 16 year old Sunday School class, 13 year old Sunday School class, and several classes in Primary from the Sunbeams to the Blazers. (I also taught Elder's Quorum and Gospel Doctrine and those participants weren't much better.)
None of those LDS kids asked the kinds of questions or thought about the kinds of things that any of the UU kids do. Not only do the UU kids seem far more intelligent and inquisitive but there are none of the problems with mis-behaviour. Maybe it is just because they want to be there (rather than be forced to be there by parents or feel they have to attend to be 'worthy') but I think there is something more to it than that.
