This is the crux of the problem with this word. No one knows what it means. Even those of us who think we do really don't have a clue how it is being used when someone else now says they are an agnostic. In real "ordinary conversations" people who say they are agnostic probably do so because they think it is some sort of middle ground between theism and atheism. I don't think it is as I explain on the page below.
