Some years ago I read a Mth thesis in which the writer said that the word meant "frightening" in greek. I was used in reference to the puffin birds that flew off the Atlantic seaboard. They had black patches around their eyes and hence appeared frightening. Is there any evidence that Smith could have got his information from this source in regard to the word "mormon"
