I went backpacking this weekend and we got into a discussion about
evolution. As I know very little about evolution I was not able to
add much to the discussion. It is my idea (it may be wrong)
but much of what is known about biology is attributed to evolution
(natural selection , etc). My friend said that evolution does
not answer a lot of questions about how species vary, it only explains
changes within a species. As I am an engineer and not a biologist
I am not sure the extent of available evidence on changes in evolution
or to how correct his statements are (he is no biologist either). The
discussion then moved into the realm of religion as evolution often
seems to do. I argued that evolution is not some religion that
scientists are trying to push and use as evidence there is no god: it
is a way to honestly try to understand our world. Anyways, I was wondering
a good book or website that explains evolution for a layperson like
myself.
Thanks
