No two UU services are alike (especially if the local church in your area is lay led rather than minister led). In fact, no two are even remotely close (unlike Mormon services in which once you've seen one you've basically seen them all).
You may want to get a newsletter from the local church to find out what the topics are for the next few months and then pick one that you know your wife will be interested in before attending.
I tend to be interested in only about 20% of the services offered in my local area.
Our first week was on educating kids and featured editors of parenting magazines, a principal, and a teacher. We loved it. Had the topic been something like socializing health care we probably wouldn't have ever gone back.
In other words, it's good to pick and choose. There is no need or requirement to attend every week.
