Hi, I am an atheist who was a UU for about 15 years.
I was also the chruch sexton during much of that time.
I had great experiences with the UU church for most of the time.
The best part was having ministers who were atheists.
I lucked out 2 times. Then POW! We got a methodist who
was masquerading as a Unitarian.
Eeeeeeeeeee! That did NOT work. The person in question installed
all kinds of jesus-god stuff in the services.
Everyone ran for the hills and took their pledge money with them.
Finally, the board was forced (when they couldn't even make the
electric bill) to fire her and her husband. The husband wasn't too terrible
but the wife did permanent damage and forever severed friendships
and loving relationships when she forced us all to
choose between her and each other.
Oh , well.
You are right. Most UU churches are great with ALOT of
social action. But it can change if the minister does.
