Does acceptance of Biblical stories as "normal" make a person more likely to accept deviant behavior?

I read a thread on the exmo BB, which was repugnant to normal sensibilities, about Joseph Smith asking a friend Heber C Kimball if he could have sex with and bear children with Heber's wife Vilate. Now if you personalize this however you may want to in your own life- it's pretty wierd, or so I was saying to my brother. His faithful response was interesting-"well, Joseph was just testing Heber, its not
as bad as in the bible where Job was tested, and lost his family, or like asking him to kill his child or anything, his wife would still be alive and well, and he could see her." (I'm flipped out again). And you know- he's right, if you accept the
Bible stories as A-OK then you can accept alot of very perverse things as a matter of course. And this is a book people are spoon feeding their children. Anyone see
an overall problem here?
