: I have just read Godel, Escher, Bach. Excuse me for saying this, but I think that this
: extremely clever book is one huge put-on, a satire on intellectual pretension.
: Does anyone else agree with that? Let me hear from you. Ciao.

Like Carlos, I didn't perceive the book as a satire. I found it to be a very intriguing book, very much worth owning. So far, I have only borrowed it from the library, but thanks to your post reminding me of how much I enjoyed the book, I have determined to buy a copy I find one in a book store. I think the book does a good job of showing how music, art, mathematics and science inter-relate and reinforce each other. I don't pretend to fully understand everything in that book, but I intend to understand it better than I do now. It think it is one of those rare books that is so full of deep, thought provoking content, that no matter how many times one reads it, one gains some new insight that one didn't notice on previous readings.
