(Xavier)They have become dominant because they are supported by evidence, observations, experimentation, etc. I would disagree, however, that these ideas have "debased" intellectualism. I feel the scientific method of seeking "truth" has allowed for intellectualism to flourish and it has greatly enhanced it. The "Dark Ages" were not dominated by science; they were dominated by oppressive religious thought.
