I've had this problem twice in my lifetime and both times I found it was caused by the same problem. Look in your pantry, or wherever you keep potatoes, for a very old bag of mostly rotten ones. You will find that it contains a fruitfly nursery. If you do not find a bag of mostly rotten potatoes, look again. It is there and that is where they (the ff's) are coming from.
