Calcium Blockers
I've had the "pain in the calves when walking" problem myself -- also had problems with them cramping up completely while jogging. There are some factors which might work against Calcium absorption:
- Age -- as we get older our ability to activate calcium diminishes, according to one study.
- Alcohol
- Smoking
- Sodium
- High fat foods
- Stress
- Lack of exercise
- caffeine
- Food fiber
- Phytates or phytic acid (found in whole grain foods)
- Certain diseases -- severe Crohn's disease; chronic kidney failure, diabetes, hypoparathyroidism.
