:My biggest mistake has been not drinking enough milk. I've broken ribs in 4 of the last 5 years. Men can get osteoporosis too, as they age, but many dont realise it. Increase your calcium intake while you're young to build up your skeleton. Trouble is that you've got to have plenty of vitamin D in your diet or your body can't absorb the calcium in the milk.
While I was doing chemo, I complained to the doc about painful leg cramps at night. He said "take calcium". I said, "I'm drinking at least a gallon a day" (I was actually drinking 6 gallons of fluid a day due to undiagnosed diabetes) The doc, just smiled and said, "Get some calcium tablets and take them." I did and the cramps went away.
I'm thinking, if a gallon of milk a day doesn't give me the calcium I need to beat cramps, what is the value of calcium in milk? I understand it could be more complicatred than that due to the extreme stress my body was under at the time.
For that reason and others (caveman thinking), I avoid milk now.
Does milk help reduce osteoporosis or do I need to eat sea shells?
:Seems there's no simple solution and we each have to take responsibility for our own health.
Isn't that the truth.
