What Emerson have you read? I like Emerson for the same reason I like a portion of Sagan's outlook. They both find the beautiful and amazing in the simple, profound, and often overlooked. Also, there is that constant theme of progress to be made if things are thought about and improved upon (rather than a reliance on tradition).
I want to read it again now that my views have changed.
I found it to be symbolic of the typical apologetic work you find out of groups like FARMS. I'm sure you'll see that too if you read it again.
Why does Eco make the first 50 to 100 pages of his books so incredibly difficult?
