: Since, all possible existences are possible, they are also enavitable, therefore "you" and I were enevitible. "We" not only happened, we had to happen. "Can you dig it, sure you can"
Yes, I agree that if you assume that one has unlimited time the theory is that 100 monkeys at 100 typewriters would be able to type out every work of literature written, begin written, and that will be written just by chance. The only question is how much time would actually be needed and how long we've actually had. In the oscillating Universe model, does each model start out the same? And is there any way to tell that it has happened before? A basic difference between Creationism and Evolutionism is that Creationism believes there wasn't enough time for the world as we know it to happen without help and evolutionism believes that there was.
On a completely unrelated note (as far as this bulletin board goes), does anyone know enough about some math concept about infinity (called "alpha", I think) to tell me or let me know where I can find more about the idea that in an infinite string of symbols, all substrings will be contained even though substrings may themselves be infinite? In the monkeys and typewriters idea, for example, if each monkey typed independently, in an infinite amount of time they would all contain what the others had themselves typed, but since each monkey never stops typing...
Or is this one of those "You're not thinking, you're just being logical" thought problems Planck accused Einstein of proposing?
