The problem with their books is that Guth's is very difficult to understand in many respects and Reese glosses over inflation to such an extreme that the reader doesn't understand inflation any more than they can after just reading the USNews article.
I haven't read either one, but they're on my list. The link below is to a sci-fi novel that a read a few weeks ago - pretty interesting. Not the greatest writing, but the scientific speculation is interesting and along these lines ("bubble" universes).
Perhaps your job, Carlos, is to write a comprehensible book on the inflation that occured in our Universe. ;)
